What is Monjayaki?
First of all we must first explain exactly what Monjayaki is. It can be simply explained by saying it’s a multi ingredient pan fried batter of sorts. It is similar to the dish okonomiyaki but differs in one key way. Okonomiyaki is more of a set batter whereas monjayaki has more liquid in it and therefor makes it’s texture a little more soft or runny like melted cheese if you will. Kondo is the oldest shop in the whole region and is said to have originated this dish. It’s special not only for that of course because it is special because of the ninety various toppings you can have for your Monjayaki. It’s a great place that has space for only 15 people on inside so you will most likely have to book in advance using the phone number below. This space is special because they will assign you your own member of staff for the duration of your meal if you are not so comfortable with cooking the food yourself at the grill located on your table. This is a really great experience and one not to be missed lightly.
Maguroya is probably the smallest shop of its kind in probably the world but most certainly in Tokyo. This place is famous for having huge lines or ques outside that stretch a very long way. This place isn’t only famous for it’s amazing Monjayaki but also it’s awesome drinks pairings as well. But that’s not all, it has some of the best sashimi grade tuna in the whole of Tokyo what with it being so close to Tsukiji market. Don’t be put off by the size of this place it’s one great place to eat out.
